Abstract
The study determined the extent to which staff welfare predicts staff job satisfaction. Two objectives, research questions, and null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The correlation research design was used for the study. The design was used to discover or clarify the relationship between the variables in the study by using correlation coefficients. The population of the study comprised 1521 academic staff members from the 12 Faculties of the University of Uyo at the time of the study. The sample size was 317 academic staff members. Two instruments were used for data collection namely, Staff Welfare Questionnaire (SWQ) and Academic Staff Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (ASJSQ). The reliability of the questionnaires was determined using Cronbach Alpha Analysis. The reliability indices of 0.84 for SWQ and 0.82 for ASJSQ were obtained. R and R² values of Simple Linear Regression were used for testing the null hypotheses at 05 level of significance. The findings of the study showed that health and medical services, childcare support services significantly predict academic staff job satisfaction in the University of Uyo.
